Man, Woman Arrested After Theft from Car

Woonsocket Police brought multiple charges against a local man and woman found walking on Spring Street. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Woonsocket Police investigation into a car theft resulting in the arrests of a man and woman on various charges.

Justin Figueroa, 18, faces felony charges of possession of counterfeit drugs with intent to deliver and receiving stolen goods, while Cristina Morales, 19, was arrested on a warrant issued by Providence Superior Court for failing to appear at a determination of attorney hearing.

Patrol Ofc. Jesse Nunnemacher reported that he responded to Glen and Upland Roads to investigate the apparent tampering of a car. A second officer found the car "appeared to be rummaged through," Nunnemacher wrote.

Officers then found Figueroa and Morales walking on Spring Street, and Nunnemacher said he approached Figueroa and saw a prescription bottle sticking out of his pocket.

Nunnemacher reported that he found small plastic bags inside the prescription bottle, and that Figueroa told him they contained "fake bags of coke" that he was using to "make some quick cash."

Later tests proved negative for cocaine.

Nunnemacher also reported that in checking a backpack carried by Morales, he found a GPS device, four Visa gift cards valued at $400, an iPhone charger, and a pair of sunglasses in their case.

Officers later spoke with a resident of Upland Road who reported that the GPS, Charger, and iPhone cord had been in her car.

A check of Morales's identity returned the active warrant, stemming from charges of driving with a suspended license and possession of a stolen vehicle or parts brought by Woonsocket Police.

She was ordered held without bail following a July 30 hearing, and is scheduled for another hearing on Aug. 6.

Figueroa was released on personal recognizance until an Oct. 3 hearing in Sixth District Court. She also faces a new charge of possession of stolen goods from the recent arrest.
