Man Turns Himself in on Warrant for Stealing Jewelry from Father

On Aug. 16, Chris Salvas, 21, of 131 Andrews St., turned himself in on an outstanding warrant for stealing jewelry from his father, Andre Salvas.

The warrant was issued following a July 23 visit to Woonsocket Police headquarters at 242 Clinton St. at about 4:40 p.m. by Andre, according to police reports. The elder Salvas told police he was missing several pieces of jewelry and believed his son, Chris, had taken it.

Andre said he had locked up the jewelry in his bedroom due to his son's drug use, but returned to his home on July 20 to find it missing. Andre said he suspected Chris because there was no forced entry to the home, and Chris has stolen from him in the past, according to the report.

Taken from Andre's home were a 20" gold chain worth $350, three .25 carat diamond earrings worth $200, and a .25 carat diamond ring worth $200.

Chris Salvas was charged with larceny of less than $1,500. He pled no contest to the charge Aug. 26 in Sixth District Court, and was ordered to pay restitution and court costs of $93.50. He was also sentenced to one year's probation.
