Donut X-press Closed For Kitchen Repairs After Fire

Fryolator fire to blame, according to Woonsocket Fire Marshal's Office.

Donut X-press at 17 Front St. is closed while the owner repairs damage done to the kitchen during a fire Sept. 29.

Fire Lt. David Degrane at the Woonsocket Fire Marshal's office said the fire occured in the building's fryolators, a deep-frying appliance used to cook french fries and other fried foods, including doughnuts. The fire began underneath the appliance, near the burners, which he said is unusual.

From there, the fire spread into the hood over the fryolators, he said. The Woonsocket Fire Department was on the scene within minutes, and the fire was out in 20 minutes.

A sign on the front of the building informs customers that the business is closed while repairs are made to the kitchen. "They're replacing all the equipment right now," Degrane said.

This is sad for that business, I hope the previous customers that went there on a regular basis continue going when they repair the needed repairs, also maybe the cooks there need to be educated on the cleaning process after each use, I do beleive that may have been the cause, lack of knowledge after each use, all apliances using oil should be cleaned of all spilled and lingering oil. and the fryolators were only used for donuts and jelly sticks, and the smidgets. I Am glad that it only had the minor damage, the owner is a nice man and doesn't deserve this downtime. here is where the famous saying can apply, you pay peanuts and you get monkeys. no offense. and they have way better coffee than Dunkin Donuts and donuts are twice as big and made there daily.

I used to go there all the time with my kids but now refuse to go due to someone on the sex offender list hanging out there every day all day just about. They do have great coffee and donuts though.
