During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that on October 7, 2007, Jelley sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl. The victim reported the incident to a friend, who in turn told her mother and went to the police that day.

Woonsocket Police Lt. Edward J. Doura led the investigation. Special Assistant Attorney General and chief of the Child Abuse Unit Shannon Signore prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of Attorney General.
