City Man 'Borrows' TV, Woonsocket Police Arrange Its Return, His Arrest

Woonsocket Officer James Dybala was called to Mount Vernon Apartments at 939 Bernon St. July 22 at about 8:24 a.m. for a report of a stolen TV, arresting a tenant who said he'd borrowed it, which was news to the building manager.

Dybala spoke with Elizabeth Lacroix, the building manager at the apartment complex, who said that on July 20 at 4:30 a.m., she saw a tenant, Floyd Harris, 34, walk into the community room and take the TV while watching security cameras. She said Harris has lived in apt. 105 for four years, and was well known to her.

Lacroix said she observed Harris take the TV into his apartment on the security cameras, along with the remote and cable box. Dybala reviewed the video footage himself, confirming Lacroix's story.

Dybala spoke with Harris, who said he believed he was just borrowing the TV, and had permission to take it. Lacroix said she'd never had a conversation with Harris giving him permission to take the set.

Harris allowed Dybala into his apartment to retrieve the TV, returning it to Lacroix. The remote and cable box were not recovered.

Harris was arrested and charged with larceny of less than $1,500. He was released with a Sixth District Court summons.
