Buyer Shows Up After WPD Busts East School Street Crack Dealer

If the controlled purchase WPD Detectives made while investigating a suspected East School Street crack dealer didn't convince them they had their men, the lady who showed up after the bust looking to buy crack probably cinched it.

Woonsocket Police arrested three men Monday at the second floor apartment at 614 East School St. following an investigation including a controlled purchase of crack from the address, according to a police report.

During the controlled purchase, detectives learned a man with a small dollar sign tattoo on his forehead had sold the drugs from the apartment. Numerous informants had alerted detectives that crack was sold from the location, according to the report.

At 10:54 p.m., officers knocked and announced themselves, and made a forced entry into the apartment, according to a police report. It was later learned that two men in the apartment, Giovany Hernandez, 21, of 135 River St., and Travis Gagne, 20, of 482 Park Ave. Apt. 1st, had gone to the front porch as officers entered. The latter had a tattoo of a dollar sign on his forehead, the report notes.

Inside, officers found Willie Scurry, 54, who lived at the apartment, in his bedroom, and a woman in the kitchen. While they were searching the apartment, another woman knocked on the door, telling officers, after being advised of her rights, that she had shown up intending to buy $30 of crack.

On the front porch, officers found a clear plastic bag containing several separate bags of cocaine, weighing 9.7 grams. In Scurry's room officers found a spoon with heavy cocaine residue on it.

Throughout the apartment, officers found cut corner baggies, crack pipes and other baggies. In the living room, they found a box of glad bags and a scale. The apartment was unclean and showed heavy signs of drug use, according to the report.

Police arrested all three men.

Scurry was charged with manufacturing with intent to deliver controlled substances, controlled substance conspiracy, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of controlled substances.

Gagne, Scurry's nephew, was charged with manufacturing with intent to deliver controlled substances and controlled substance conspiracy.

Hernandez was charged with manufacturing with intent to deliver controlled substances and controlled substance conspiracy. He also had an outstanding warrant for this arrest for domestic simple assault.
