Anonymous Caller Alerts WPD to Man With Crack

Woonsocket Police Officers Joseph Brazil and Michael Velino were called to 314 Front St. Aug. 18 at about 5 p.m. to check out an anonymous report of men bagging cocaine in a Red Ford Explorer.

When they arrived, the officers found the Explorer parked behind the building, and two men exiting it. One of the men appeared to toss something under a black Ford Mustang as the officers approached, according to Brazil's report.

Brazil called to the men, who began running from the truck, one of them making it inside a side door in the building, locking it behind him. The other man is identified as Shane Pilon, 21, of 19 Hebert Ave., Apt. 3.

The man who had run into the building was eventually convinced to come outside, and gave the officers consent to search the Explorer. Under the the Mustang, the officers allegedly found a bag containing small plastic baggies of crack cocaine, worth about $80. Underneath the stairs to the house, officers found several more small, empty baggies.

At police headquarters at 212 Clinton St., the owner of the Explorer said he and Pilon were in his truck when Pilon took out what he thought was cocaine and they then left the truck. The truck owner said he thought Pilon had taken the cocaine with him.

The truck owner was released. Pilon was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine.
