I, Garrett Mancieri, am very excited and proud to announce my candidacy for City Council in Woonsocket for the 2013 election. I am ready to work for the people of Woonsocket to bring back our thriving City with new ideas and solutions. I am happy to share my platform with the voters and hope you will give me a chance to represent you.
My top three priorities will be to promote economic development, increase property values and lower tax rates, and to improve the image/reputation of the City. First, I will start up a foundation called GROW Woonsocket to collect donations and apply for funds to give out to new and expanding businesses to give our City a competitive advantage. Second, I will form a Woonsocket Neighborhood Revitalization Group to report code violations, clean up neighborhoods, and apply for grants to rehabilitate blighted property or demolish property to create open space/off street parking. Third, I will call for a full review of every procedure/guideline of City Hall to make it easy for businesses and investors to do work in the City. More will follow in the press releases to come.
I have several other priorities as your next Councilman. I will cut the law budget by implementing a cap and forming a negotiating team for the City with no outside counsel, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. I promise to restore all street lights to protect our citizens at night. I will buy our own tax liens to either collect extra interest or take ownership of properties to resell for a profit or demolish the property to save costs. We need to sell all empty City owned property and vacant land immediately to save maintenance costs and promote economic development. I will also implement a fine system for abandoned property owners to improve our quality of life. It is important to promote tourism with a new website that promote our businesses and will be appealing to the Providence/Boston market. In addition, I will form sub-committees for the Council to encourage more citizen participation. It is very important our new City Council meets regularly with our school committee and our RI delegation to have a good working relationship and stay informed. Please go out and vote on October 8th. Thank you.
