The River United Methodist Church thanks donors for helping homeless.

TO THE EDITOR:

I would like to take a moment to thank all the community that assisted and Harvest Community Church in Woonsocket, RI in their efforts to raise tents and sleeping bags for the 30 homeless men in the community.

Your efforts have gone beyond being a temporary Band-Aid and manifested God's Mercy and Christ's Love on earth.

I would like to make you aware that some of these men have moved beyond their situation. Three men have found housing and employment. These men were homeless not due to drugs or alcohol, but because of the loss of employment, housing, and the lack of family/friend emotional assistance. The
River United Methodist RISEM Men's Group and Spiritual Practices Women's Group as well as Harvest Community Church's staff provided a place to shower and groom, clean clothes, a hot meal, and a patient ear; these men were encouraged to take advantage of the City of Woonsocket and State of
Rhode Island resources. Two of homeless men that were in desperate need of mental health counseling and medication received these services.

Due to following Christ's Commission to help the poor, hungry, downtrodden and rejected, God has blessed The River United Methodist Communities and Harvest Community Church efforts to spread the Word of God and social justice.

Once again, thank all of you in the New England United Methodist Conference for assisting in showing Christ's heart.

Charles E. Hilton, Financial Secretary
The River United Methodist Communities, Woonsocket RI
