Joseph A. Connolly, Jr., 88: WWII Navy Vet, Blood Center Volunteer

Joseph A. Connolly, Jr., 88, of Sayles Hill Rd., died Jan. 10, 2014 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, according to Holt Funeral Home.

He was the husband of the late Marguerite E. (Kuntz) Connolly. Born in No. Smithfield, he was the son of the late Joseph A, Sr. and Mary (Delaney) Connolly.

Connolly worked as a Master Steam Fitter for Conditioned Air, E. Providence, retiring in 1986. A WWII Navy Veteran, Joseph was an avid sportsman and was a lifelong and eldest member of the Sayles Hill Rod and Gun Club. He volunteered for more than 25 years for the Rhode Island Blood Center.

He is survived by his two children, Kathleen Connolly of No. Scituate and James J. Connolly and his wife Lucille of Manville, a sister, Doris Cournoyer of Pittsford, NY, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Edward Connolly.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at 9 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 33 Division St., Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Old River Rd., Manville. Calling hours are Monday from 4 - 7 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Tomorrow Fund, 593 Eddy St., Providence, RI 02903.
