Emilienne A. “Amy” Lapierre: Landmark Nurse, Grandmother

Life-long Woonsocket resident died Jan. 7 at home.

 

Emilienne A. “Amy” Lapierre, 92, Woonsocket died peacefully Monday at home surrounded by her loving family, according to Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home.

She was the wife of the late Albert G. Lapierre.

Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Emile and Justine (Lambaer) Platiau. She was a lifelong resident of the city. In her early years she worked in the local textile industry.

Mrs. Lapierre went on to graduate from Holy Ghost Hospital School of Nursing in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She served as a member of the nursing staff at Woonsocket Hospital, later Landmark Medical Center, for many years. Amy took great pride in providing the highest measure of nursing skills to the patients entrusted to her care.

Amy was a member of the St. Agatha’s and St. Joseph’s Senior Citizens Clubs, the former Franco Club of Bellingham, and the 361st Fighter Group Association. She was a longtime communicant of St. Agatha’s Parish.

Amy will be remembered as being devoted to her family and for her strong sense of independence and strength.

She is survived by a son Albert R. Lapierre, and his wife Jeanne, of Wellington, FL, two daughters Helen L’Heureux, and her husband Gerard, of Woonsocket and Lucille Guilbault, and her husband Richard, of Pascoag. Seven grandchildren Lori and Lynn L’Heureux, Ryan Guilbault and Rebecca Guilbault-Triplett, Michelle Barata, Jessica LaCrosse and Justine Lapierre, and four great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Lucienne Croteau, Irene Mayer, Annette Beaulieu and the late Emile Platiau. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Her funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am Precious Blood Church, 94 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8 pm.
