Costs Mount as Surgery Nears

A Woonsocket woman is facing a total thyroidectomy, followed by a slew of medical bills.

Imagine going to a doctor to treat a simple rash on your arm, only to find out you may have thyroid cancer.

A Woonsocket woman is faced with just that scenario. Jessica Lapierre went to her a doctor for some swelling on her arm over the summer. While examining her arm, doctors found something potentially far more sinister.

"While having the ultrasound done on my arm, the ultrasound tech noticed my 'lumpy thyroid' - which I was not aware of. (I am thankful he was so sharp to notice & that he mentioned it)," Lapierre wrote in her GoFundMe post seeking support for myriad medical expenses. The nodules on her thyroid are suspicious of cancer, and the only way to stem the threat is to remove her entire thyroid, she wrote.

Lapierre's surgery is scheduled for late September, and she is seeking support for the medical expenses and lost income she will experience during recovery. Click the photo above to read Lapierre's full story or make a donation to her cause.
