WPD Enforcing Travel Ban, Parking Ban Stretched Till Monday

Cumberland High School Shelter Open, 108 National Grid Customers without power.

UPDATE 3:42 p.m.: Based on the positive progress made clearing RI roadways, Governor Lincoln D. Chafee has decided to lift the travel ban on RI roadways at 4 p.m. today.

Chief Gary Lataille's plea to residents to remain indoors and allow road crews to continue to clear city streets unhampered remains in effect.

2 p.m.: Chances are, if you're reading this, Governor Lincoln Chafee's travel ban applies to you.

One of the exceptions that applies to folks who aren't emergency services personnel, healthcare workers or utility crews would be people making their way to emergency shelters, such as the one across the town line at Cumberland High School. The shelter is now opened, said Woonsocket EMA Chief Gary Lataille, for the roughly 108 customers still without power in the city.

Lataille reports police will enforce Gov. Lincoln Chafee's travel ban for the rest of Woonsocket.

That's not the only ban locals need to be concerned with. The city-wide parking ban has been extended until 9 a.m. on Monday, and police will continue to aggressively ticket and tow violators.

Trash pick up is canceled until Monday —all trash and recycle bins should be removed from curbside, according to a release from the city's emergency management agency.

Lataille said the DPW is still working around the clock to clear roads and remains in immediate need for private snow plow contractors that have a six-wheel dump truck or larger. Any interested party should call DPW at 401-767-8883 or 401-767-9286. Lataille estimates snow removal will take 48 hours to complete.

Hey Gary, sucks when you have to hand out IOUs for folks who are willing to bail you out right? Good luck!

They're working around the clock? Where? I drove around the city and didn't see a single plow anywhere. No sanding anywhere either. Sno's getting packed down and very slick! Dennis
