PHOTOS: Woonsocket Preparing For Winter Storm

Last minute errands squared away as city gets set for a weekend indoors.

A few hours before Gov. Lincoln Chafee declared a state of emergency for RI, Woonsocket residents were clearing up some last minute errands and getting ready to spend a the next few days inside.

The roads were wet at 10:45 a.m., and light snow had just begun to fall, with modest traffic peppering Park Avenue and along the Park Square plaza, where people were stopping in at Dollar Tree and lifting their car's hoods to add fluids at Auto Zone.

Postman Brad Spicer was making deliveries along Park Avenue at about 10:55 a.m. He said the roads were pretty good at that early hour of the storm.

Spicer noted the main thing he and his fellow postal workers worry about is people keeping their stairways and walkways clear. "A little sand and salt goes a long way," Spicer said.
