Woonsocket EMA Reports 500 Customers Without Power, Repairs Continuing

WFD Chief Gary Lataille warns people to avoid downed wires.

 

Strong wind from Hurricane Sandy last night, (now downgraded to a tropical storm) has caused sporadic power outages, leaving 500 accounts in Woonsocket without power.

The Woonsocket Emergency Management Agency reports National Grid is currently working to restore all accounts in the city. Keep checking the utility company's online power outage map for current power outage conditions.

The current number of power outages is a marked improvement from without power. Charlotte McCormack, spokesperson for National Grid, said crews were taken in yesterday after winds reached speeds greater than 30 mph. She said last night that crews would begin repairing downed lines in force this morning. 

Any customer without power should call National Grid’s power outage hotline, 1.800.322.3223.

Any wire down reports should also be made to National Grid at the same contactnumber. NEVER approach or attempt to move downed wires, all downed wiresshould be considered “live”.

The RIDOT is urging motorists to exercise caution as they drive around the city and the state, since some roads may be blocked by downed wires, branches or trees.
