Police Log: Man Arrested For DUI, Hit And Run

The following information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

John Fitzgerald Morin, 47, of 51 Wood Ave., apt. 2 Right, drove Dec. 28 at about 10 p.m., since his roomate had a suspended license, but a Woonsocket Police report shows that wasn't the best distribution of labor.

Patrol Officer Michael Velino was dispatched to Homestead Road that evening for a report of an accident with no injuries. When he arrived, he spoke with Brittany Jarrie, who said a yellow truck had struck her blue Jeep Grand Cherokee at the intersection of West School Street and Prospect Street and didn't stop. She said she followed the truck to 21 Homestead Road, and pointed out the driver, who was sitting on a nearby stone wall.

Velino spoke to the man, later identified as Morin, noting his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Velino asked him to stand, which he did, using his hands to push himself upright. After standing, he lost his balance and fell back to a seated position, according to the report.

Velino reported Morin said, "You got me," admitting he was inebriated and didn't have a license. He also refused to submit to an sobriety test.

Velino also spoke to Morin's friend, who said he was in the passenger's seat that night because his license was suspended.

The officer arrested Morin, charging him with driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to stop after a crash, refusing to submit to a chemical test — and driving with a suspended license.
