Monday: Labor Day, Trash, Register, And Sunny Weather

Happy Labor Day, Woonsocket - here are some things to know.

Labor Day - Today is Labor Day in a city with a rich history of organized labor, and The Museum of Work and Culture isn't letting that happen without a celebration — The Annual Labor Day Open House. Admission is free all day beginning at 9:30 a.m. until closing at 4 p.m.

Among several other events, a play titled “Finlay’s Corner” about three textile mill workers discussing labor problems in 1931, will be presented four times during the day: at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m.

Trash pickup - Today, in the observance of Labor Day the Woonsocket Recycle Facility will be closed. The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (Central Landfill) in Johnston is closed, too. Curbside pick-up of rubbish and recycling for the week of Sept. 3 to Sept. 7 will be delayed by one day.

Residents are reminded that any overloaded trash cart(s) or  recycling cart(s) placed at curbside will not be collected.  In those cases, it is the responsibility of the property owner or tenant to properly dispose of the waste at their own expense.
