Steward Healthcare has officially walked from the deal to buy Landmark Medical Center, but the flagging hospital has a new suitor.
"We recieved notification from Steward this afternoon that they were not moving forward," on their long-in-limbo deal to purchase Landmark Medical Center, said Amy Kempe, public information officer for Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office.
Landmark spokesman Bill Fischer, who mentioned Landmark was courting a new potential buyer for the financially troubled hospital said Landmark had signed an asset purchase agreement with a new healthcare organization. "That's good news," he said, "That's not a step that anyone would take lightly."
Fisher would not name the company Landmark has signed its new deal with, but said it will be made public later today when the court documents are filed.
"The office stands ready to move forward with this process," said Kempe.
