Friday Five: Safe Routes Day, Bridges at Thundermist, Rabies Clinic May 4

It's finally Friday - check out these things to know:

 

Safe Routes fun today - The Woonsocket Planning and Parks and Recreation Departments are sponsoring a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Event to educated and encourage Woonsocket elementary and middle school children to walk or bike to school. The event will take place at River Island Park today from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The event boasts a bouncy house, a disc jockey, popcorn, basketball drills and there will be prizes such as bike locks and pedometers. A representative from AAA will provide bike and pedestrian safety information for the kids at the event as well. This event is part of the SRTS grant program.  

Building Bridges today - Thundermist Health Center, 450 Clinton St, is hosting “Building Bridges to Community Resources,” a free educational fair for the Woonsocket community today from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Learn more about the range of services that Thundermist offers, including adult, women’s and pediatric health care, behavioral health services, Quick Care walk-in medical services and social services including insurance assistance and a discounted pharmacy program. Representatives from 14 agencies throughout Woonsocket will also be available to discuss drug prevention programs, day care services, preschool and after-school programs, summer programs, advocacy resources and more.

Community garden -The GrowUp Community Garden has several plots still available for rent for community members who wish to grow food or herbs. The garden, which is beginning its fifth season, is located adjacent to the Woonsocket Harris Public Library on land donated by the Pawtucket YMCA . The cost for renting a 4’x10’ raised bed is $20 for the season. As a condition of the rental contract it is requested that 10% of the plot’s yield be donated to one of the participating local food pantries. Rabies Clinic May 4 - The Woonsocket Animal Shelter, sponsored by and in conjunction with the RI VMA (RI Veterinary Medical Association) will hold a Rabies Clinic May 4 at Woonsocket Animal Shelter, 105 Cumberland Hill Road from noon to 1:30 p.m. Bring your dogs, cats, and ferrets, and $12 per animal.

The licensing clerk from City Hall will also be there to renew and or issue dog licenses.
