Finally Friday: Memorial, 5K, Parrot Head Party

It's finally Friday - here are some things to know.

 

Monument dedication - Come out to the corner of Mason and South Main Streets Saturday at 10 a.m. for the unveiling of a monument to the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy. The event celebrates Woonsocket's diverse community, organizations, churches and businesses working together. A reception will follow at , 340 S. Main St.

Parrot Head Party - Today at 6 p.m.   99 Louise St., 401-762-9652, will host a Jimmy Buffet Parrot Head Party. A $10 ticket gets you music, fun, hot dogs and "cheeseburgers in paradise". Proceeds will benefit the veterans and, hopefully, increase membership at St. Josephs Veteran Association.

CVS Caremark 5K - Ever wanted to run a 5k? This weekend is your big chance with the CVS Caremark Downtown 5k in Providence. Race day features the CVS Caremark Downtown 5k, The Tufts Health Plan High School Inspirational 3K and youth races of varying distances. All races start and finish on Francis Street which is located on the south side of the Rhode Island State House. Onsite registration and packet pickup will be available at Rhode Runner,657 North Main Street, Providence.

  • Friday noon to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Registration and packet pickup will also be available on race morning at Station Park (Gaspee ST & Francis St.) starting at 7:15 a.m.

Costs before Sunday: 5K - $30. Youth races and High School 3K - $20.
Costs on Sunday: 5K - $35. Youth races and High School 3K - $20.

Register to vote - Oct. 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 election, and Oct. 16 is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. This election season voters will also be required to show a voter ID.
