The GNEMSDC Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) typically selects the Corporation of the Year based on the following considerations:

  • Total spend with certified Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs)
  • Senior executive support for supplier diversity
  • Structure and resources dedicated to supplier diversity and minority business development
  • Activities to provide opportunities and information to certified MBEs.

Held this year on May 6 at the Aqua Turf Country Club in Southington, Conn., the GNEMSDC Awards Gala has been held every year since the mid-1970s to honor minority owned businesses as well as corporations and rising minority entrepreneurs in the Greater New England area. The gala has become the largest dinner of diverse suppliers and corporations in the Northeast. This year, as in others, the distinguished audience included governors, senators, members of congress, mayors, corporate CEOs and other leaders.

As a result of winning the award, National Grid will participate in the long-held tradition of serving as co-chair for the 2015 Awards Gala and Expo, which will also be the GNEMSDC’s 40th anniversary, and is expected to take place in Boston, MA.
