Woonsocket Non-Profits Receive Grants from CVS Caremark Charity Classic

Three Woonsocket non-profits are among 81 area organizations to receive donations from the CVS Caremark Charity Classic at CVS Caremark’s local headquarters.

The golf tournament, the largest charitable sporting event in Rhode Island, 
attracting world-class golfers, donated a total of $1.3 million this year. CVS Caremark President and CEO Larry Merlo along with PGA Tour Professionals Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon, co-hosted the check presentation to the organizations Thursday morning at 1 CVS Drive.

Among the recipients were the Boys & Girls Clubs of Woonsocket, Connecting for Children and Families in Woonsocket, Thundermist Health Center in Woonsocket. Together, the charities received a total of $35,000.

Outside the city, funds from the Classic assist numerous charities, including Meeting Street, which provides valuable, hands-on therapeutic care to more than 3,000 children and families annually; to supporting Save The Bay, an organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the historic Narragansett Bay region; to helping Highlander Charter School in offering a quality education to students with a variety of financial backgrounds.

“Giving back to our local communities and supporting organizations that help children and families in need is at the heart of the Charity Classic,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Tournament Chairwoman. “By combining world-class entertainment with financial support to important nonprofit organizations in our community, the Charity Classic has become a truly special event for the golfers and our non-profit partners.”
