CVS Donates $25,000 for Woonsocket's 125th Birthday Block Party

CVS Caremark has signed on as a corporate sponsor of Woonsocket’s 125th Anniversary Celebration, donating $25,000 to the $70,000 effort.

“CVS Caremark is proud to be a part of Woonsocket’s 125th anniversary celebration,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Community Relations. “Over the years we’ve been fortunate to work with amazing non-profit partners in the city, such as Thundermist, the Boys & Girls Club of Woonsocket, the Stadium Theatre, the Museum of Work & Culture, Connecting for Children & Families, and Adopt-a-Family. This sponsorship is just another way that we can show our support for the city that is home to our business and so many of our colleagues.”

As part of its participation in the 125th Anniversary Block Party, CVS Caremark hosted a meet and greet with Woonsocket Mayor Leo Fontaine and CVS Caremark colleagues who live in the city Aug. 20 at the Customer Support Center. CVS Caremark colleagues from the company’s retail stores, distribution centers and corporate offices attended the event and met with Mayor Fontaine to learn more about the upcoming celebration.

Fontaine thanked CVS Caremark for playing such a large role in bringing the 125th Anniversary Celebration to the city. He said it was especially fitting in light of the company’s history in Woonsocket.

CVS Caremark broke ground for its Customer Support Center, located in what’s now known as the Highland Corporate Park, back in 1981. Since then the company has continued to expand its presence in Woonsocket with a distribution center on Founders Drive and a CVS/pharmacy store on Cass Avenue. About 720 of the company’s colleagues are Woonsocket residents.

“CVS Caremark has been a part of the Woonsocket community for decades and, in turn, Woonsocket has become part of CVSCaremark,” said Mayor Fontaine. “As so many of our residents are part of the larger CVS Caremark family,  we are extremely proud  that CVS Caremark calls Woonsocket home.  Their participation in next week’s celebration is just one more sign of our close relationship.”
