Cash Mob Returning To Woonsocket Today

Participants are asked to meet at 186 Cass Ave. parking lot across from Landmark at 6 p.m.

The Northern RI Chamber of Commerce and the Blackstone Valley Independent Business Alliance are bringing the cash mob back to Woonsocket tonight.

The Cash Mob idea is to get a large group of people together who agree to spend at least $20 at each venue. The larger the crowd, the larger the impact on the local economy.

Back in April, the organizations put together a cash mob and turned its wallets and pocketbooks on Kay's Restaurant and Vose True Value. More than 100 customers surpised and thrilled shop owners and organizers.

“This is a great way to do our part to help stimulate the local economy,” said John Gregory, President and CEO of the Northern RI Chamber, in the event's press release posted on the C hamber's website

To join up or find out more, contact Kristen Boie of the NRI Chamber of Commerce at 401-334-1000 ext 106 or Jeanne Budnick of Pepin Lumber at 769-8128.

I like the intentions of this initiative, but I would like to make a suggestion. As someone that runs a customer service oriented business, it would seem detrimental to have a large crowd in my shop without notice. Staffing could be an issue, occupancy could be a problem, other customers might be pit off. Also consider Mondays are traditionally the catch up day from the w/e. Maybe a notice to the shop owner and moving to a Tuesday?

Responding to Still Hope. This is John Gregory from the Chamber of Commerce. Your commenst are right on. When I met with Jeanne Budnik from Pepin Lumber and chair of the BV Independent Business Alliance we decide that the "surprise element" would be with the cash mobbers and not the businessess. So all busineses know ahead of time that we are coming in order to: be open, be staffed and have enough inventory. We tell the mobbers at 6:15 PM. Maybe you can join us in November to see how ity works :-)
