Woonsocket Fireworks, Fourth Celebration Set for Wednesday, July 3

Woonsocket's Fourth of July celebration, including local entertainment and pyrotechnics by crowd-pleasers Atlas Pyrotechnics, returns to WWII Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 3.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with entertainment by local favorite and Master of Ceremonies Jeff Gamache, crooning patriotic favorites. At 7:30 p.m. The Kickin’ Brass Band, a 10 piece brass band takes over to wow the crowd. The main attraction - fireworks - go off at 9:15 p.m.

Last year, hundreds showed up for Atlas's spectacular show, which included just under 1,000 pounds of fireworks set off for citizens' viewing pleasure.
Matt Shea, Vice President of the Jaffrey, NH fireworks display company, said the show featured many different types of fireworks shells: DahliasOctopus and Willows, to name a few.

The annual show, put on every year since Mayor Leo Fontaine was elected in 2009 (Shea says they've been producing fireworks for the city for about 15 years, though not continually), is expected to draw about 200 people. Linda Plays at Mayor Leo Fontaine's office says she gets calls every year from neighboring communities planning their cookouts and evenings around the display.

Atlas's handiwork is paid for by a small private donations, leftover proceeds from the Mayor's Ball in 2009 and sales of the city's Christmas ornaments.

If you can't get your fill of exploding colors in just one night during the short holiday week, check out Patch's fireworks map of RI, MA and NH for more displays around New England.
