Thanksgiving Food Drives Aim to Aid City's Hungry

If you've got food or money to spare, a few local organizations could use your assistance helping out Woonsocket's needy this year:

St. Anthony's Church Food Drive

During the month of November, St. Anthony's Church will be collecting non-perishable food items for the St. Charles Borromeo Food Pantry, located on N. Main St., Woonsocket, until Nov. 24. Items such as pasta, canned goods and peanut butter can be deposited in the basket located in the vestibule of the church, 128 Greene St., 401-766-2640.

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs' Pantry is organizing a Thanksgiving Baskets Project plan to give 30 baskets to the poor and needy. Gifts of the non-perishable foods for Thanksgiving as well as monetary donations for the turkeys and fixings are needed. Foodstuffs can be left at the church doors; and monetary donations, marked “Thanksgiving” can be put in in the collection basket or sent to the rectory, 1409 Park Ave., 401-762-5117. 

St. James Food Bank

The Prescott Beach Food Bank is located at 24 Hamlet Ave., in the rear. The Prescott Beach Food Bank is an emergency food pantry open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m. The bank is an all-volunteer food pantry which distributes food for three days to persons submitting a voucher from Family Resources Community Action or with a referral (note or phone call) from area clergy or area governmental or private non-profit agencies. 

The Food Bank is a veteran member of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank  in operation for more than 20 years, distributing food to over 3,000 people annually.
