Landmark informational meeting - The RI Attorney General's office is hosting an informational public hearing Sept. 30 at Woonsocket High School, 777 Cass Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. about the bid by Prime Healthcare to convert Landmark Medical Center into a for-profit hospital. You may also submit written comments about plans for the hospital before Oct. 7 to:

Ukranian Festival Sept. 7 -  St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, located at 74 Harris Avenue, Woonsocket's “Ukrainian Festival” is Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 am to 6 pm.  Admission is free and open to the public. All are invited. 

The Ukrainian Kitchen will highlight the day’s festivities.  The menu will feature many homemade Ukrainian favorites such as varenyky (pierogies), holubtsi (stuffed cabbage), kovbasa  (kielbasa) and kapusta (fried cabbage), and much more. 

Globe Park Pickup - From Globe Park School: After you have your child please do not attempt to move your vehicle until the teacher on duty tells you to go. The cars are let out of the lot row by row. This is done for the safety of the children. Please inform your family and friends that pick up children at dismissal of this policy for the safety of all.

Labor Day Rubbish, Recycling - In observance of Labor Day, on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Monday, Sept. 2, the Woonsocket Recycle Facility, located at 943 River St., was closed.

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (Central Landfill) in Johnston was also closed Sept. 2. Curbside pick-up of rubbish and recycling for the week of Sept. 2, to Sept. 6 will be delayed by one day.

Residents are reminded that any overloaded trash carts or recycling carts placed at curbside will not be collected. In those cases, it is the responsibility of the property owner or tenant to properly dispose of the waste at their own expense.

Race Against Racism volunteers sought - Volunteers are needed for YWCA Race Against Racism at Autumnfest. Many opportunities are available to support the 5K run/walk on Oct. 13 from 7 to 11 a.m.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas: race set up, registration, water station, on course guide, finish line, and clean up.  A volunteer form is available on the Race Against Racism website
