Friday Five: New Sign, Background Checks, Labor Day, Food Bank, Nixle

Globe Park - Globe Park Elemetary School is sporting a new sign this year (see photo), thanks to the efforts of teacher Natasha Laplante. "Ms. Laplante worked tirelessly to make this happen," the school posted on their facebook page, "Thank you to the Raymond family for all their time and hard work!"

Volunteer BCI check - Planning on volunteering at your local school? Here is the link to have BCI checks done by mail and in person. Don't forget to do this important check so that you can volunteer at school events and chaperone school trips

Labor Day Rubbish, Recycling - In observance of Labor Day, on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Monday, Sept. 2,  the Woonsocket Recycle Facility, located at 943 River Street will be closed.

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (Central Landfill) in Johnston is also closed Sept. 2. Curbside pick-up of rubbish and recycling for the week of Sept. 2, to Sept. 6 will be delayed by one day.

Residents are reminded that any overloaded trash cart(s) or recycling cart(s) placed at curbside will not be collected.  In those cases, it is the responsibility of the property owner or tenant to properly dispose of the waste at their own expense.

Food Bank Needs Help - The St. James Episcopal Church's Prescott Beach Food Bank  at 24 Hamlet Ave. is in need of bars of soap, as well as any canned or boxed food items you can donate. Find a good sale or thin out your cupboard and help them stock up. Call the church at 401-762-2222 or bring items to the Food Bank during their hours Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m.

Nixle - The Woonsocket Police and Fire Department want to send a reminder about Nixle.  They encourage all residents and interested parties to sign up for Nixle’s OPT IN notification alerts.  You will be able to choose what messages you want to be informed of including emergency alerts, public safety updates, or community event information. You can receive Nixle messages on your cell phone, tablet, or other device. Recently, residents received important info about the 125th Birthday Block Party, for example.
