Flowers For Father's Day?

Make Dad smile this Father's Day with a special delivery of flowers.

Contrary to popular belief, the first Father's Day actually took place in Fairmont, WV on July 5, 1908. It was organized by Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers who had been lost in the Monongah Mining Disaster.

Unfortunately, the day was overshadowed by other events in the city and West Virginia did not officially register the holiday. The credit went to Sonora Dodd, who organized the first Father's day in Spokane, WA on June 19, 1910. It was later made an official holiday by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966.

Father's Day is a celebration honoring all fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in many countries and on other days elsewhere.  This year, 2011, it falls on Sunday, June 19.

Is it too soon to start planning that very special gift? I don't think so. The following is an idea which many people believe to be reserved for Mother's day alone: Flowers!

Flowers will not fly with my father. A flower pot is even worst. Why plan when you can go to the liquer store and get him a case of the cold ones. This is my opinion and mines only, so don't take it personal and should not decrease any flower sales. Fathers are not into flowers. They are into sports, beer, gadgets, and women.
