Is this profanity really appropriate ?

So my  daughter shows me this posting apparently from somewhere in facebook, and asks me if this is the same person that is on the City Council.  I was shocked to see that is was, and am just disgusted that an elected person (who I voted for no less)  would be so classless as to use this sort of language on a public site where children can see it. I dotted out the letters in the picture so not to offend anyone else. I will step out of my "taxpayer speak" and say that I expected better from a councilperson.

It's a word. That's all. I find it mildly amusing that people can get so horribly offended by a sequence of letters. Do you vote for people based on the words that they choose to use? Or do you vote based upon whether or not they do their job? Personally, I'm far more offended by all the various officials that we've elected over the years who say all the right things, but do wrong in their actions every step of the way.

Who cares about what she posted on her facebook?
Woony the Pooh February 18, 2014 at 10:01 AM
So true - who cares what she posted. Its 2014 - girls wear skirts, people smoke marijuana, and Facebook is a forum for expression. Why call someone out publicly like this? Such a shame. Keep up the hard work to better the city. Don't listen or mind prudes as such.

I can't believe you would admit to voting for her. She hasn't spoken one word at a council meeting since she got elected!! Can she talk??
John February 18, 2014 at 11:03 AM
When she finally does speak I wonder if we'll see Lisa Baldelli-Hunt's lips move??

We should send her a fb message asking her why the city isnt enforcing law about clearing the snow from sidewalks. Or maybe we should be worried about how the city has failed to clear its portion of sidewalks and bridges.

If my language offended anyone I apologize. What wasn't mentioned was that I was commenting on a t-shirt that was created by two friends of mine in order to raise money for a Woonsocket teacher that is battling cancer for the second time. I'm happy to report they were able to raise almost $6000 for her and her family. The shirt itself is really fantastic and has a great depiction of Woonsocket in addition to benefitting a fantastic cause. Admittedly I was over exuberant in my wording. If it's any consolation my own mother threatened to wash my mouth out with soap. I have removed the posting as not to further offend.

That dude u luv. Gee I don't remember the sidewalks being cleared when prior mayors were in office. Are you one of the mayor's detractors? Hmmm.
Keep Smiling February 18, 2014 at 12:09 PM
John, you are very impatient with someone who is new on the City Council. I'm pretty sure she will do a good job. Let's see, she's been an elected official for approx. 2 & 1/2 months so you think she should have an opinion on everything? Let's wait a little longer and see.

Honestly i could care less about the current mayor. Personally speaking i think there is something a little fishy about her brothers buisness getting raided and having evidence in his safe and his computers and he wasnt arrested.

I am not a prude at all. I just found it to be inappropriate for one of our elected leaders to post such profanity in a public forum. I understand that it is just a "word" but Councilwoman Murray now represents this city and I believe that she could have gotten her point across without using profanity. I would hope we could all set a better example for our children. And to Councilwoman Murray, I appreciate your apology. I also appreciate the cause that you were speaking of as that is why my Daughter was follwing the posts as we know Tammy well, but as I said, your point could have been made in a more appropriate manner.

I agree with Renard. It is just a word, but it's inappropriate to be using on a public forum where children, who clearly can recognize you as an elected official, can see. Kudos to Melissa for apologizing and removing the post. I understand her enthusiasm, but no matter what you are still an elected official.

Wow, if this is news, this site is definitely going downhill.

Totally Inappropriate in my eyes but with the temporary rise of liberals and their acceptance of immoral and degenerate behavior, It's becoming an unfortunate norm of society until we vote ALL democrats and liberals out of office ....

Save the CHILDREN, save the UNBORN, save the ELDERLY, save the WATER, save the AIR, save EVERYTHING, save OBAMA CARE, so no more inappropriateness on FACE BOOK. What a bunch of idiots who write on patch.

I bet the individuals that were upset with this would have been upset when David Ortiz used it on national tv.

If you're offended by profanity maybe the Internet is something you should avoid. As far as worrying about children reading it in Facebook, you should be more offended at the fact that parents let their children have Facebook. Bad parenting if you ask me. Little timmy can watch tv with all sorts of violence from explosions to nudity, but if he so happens to hear vulgar language he's going to be completely corrupted into a criminal. Lol Way to be part of Woonsockets shame renard.

Such a classy statement - no wonder Woonsocket has become such an uneducated third world toilet. Yeah, she really represents the new gangsta mentality of this city!
Russell Archambault February 27, 2014 at 07:21 AM
I think I have learned not to use so much profanity after reading all the great remarks on patch. Now I have to learn not to have so much raciest and predigest views. Like same sex marriage, or cutting off or growing certain parts to change oneself or white people going to tanning booths to be darker. Or accusing Spanish people ruining our country by not talking English. White people accused of being raciest because thinking the black president is the worst president in the history of this country because he is black. He's only half black so he cant be that bad. Spanish people deserve to be here. Catholics feeling they have the superior faith. Jews still waiting for jesus to arrive, will someone tell them he,s already come and gone. Atheist, thank god they don't believe in all this crap. Muslims be careful, don't want to offend them in any way. They are way, way, way too touchy. I think learning how to become more politically correct will help my own attitude problem.
