CUMBERLAND—Running enthusiasts should lace up their shoes and join in the 23rd Annual CumberlandFest 5K Road Race taking place this Saturday at 10 a.m., at Diamond Hill Park.
The race is dedicated in the memory of Sal Corio and Kyle McLaughlin. The USTFA–sanctioned event often draws a crowd and is one of the more challenging courses, according to race coordinator Tom Kenwood.
“The race has a steep hill to start the race, so runners get tested early,” said Kenwood. “We’ve had some good race times in the past, and with the weather forecast indicating a good day for runners on Saturday, we are expecting a good turnout.”
Racers can sign up in one of the following categories. Entrants can be placed in either Juniors (15 and under), Intermediate (15-17), Open (18-39) Masters (40-49) Sr. masters (50-59) and Veterans (60+).
The race coincides with the four-day CumberlandFest event, which begins this Thursday at Diamond Hill Park. This year’s event features a Battle of the Bands concert on Friday, CountryFest with Nicole Frechette, Marla Morris and Jacy Dawn on Saturday and local singer Kelley Lennon on Sunday. Fireworks are scheduled for Thursday and Saturday nights sponsored by golocalprov.com and The Valley Breeze, respectively. Other events and activities are posted on cumberlandfest.org.
All changes to the CumberlandFest event schedule will be posted on its website, its Facebook page at CumberlandFest 2013 or on other social media outlets. Parking is free; admission into the grounds is $5 for adults, $1 for children ages 3-12 and free for less than 3 years old.
CumberlandFest would like to thank its sponsors, including Gold Sponsors: The Town of Cumberland, Eastland Electric and J.H. Lynch & Sons; and Silver Sponsors: Cumberland Senior Center, Cosco Fence and the Ice cream Machine.
The 5K entry fee is $18 made payable to the C.Y.A.C. The first 100 people who register receive a free T-shirt. Kenwood said there is still time to sign up to get the shirt. Entrants may download the application form at www.cumberlandfest.org. Entrants will be able to sign up on race day. Anyone with questions may contact Kenwood either at firstname.lastname@example.org or (401) 658-0831.
