Stargazing Tonight, Candidates Night Coming Up, Mom's Opens Friday

Mom's Grand Opening - If you sampled the food dished out by Mom's Home Cooking during the 125th Woonsocket Birthday Block Party and want some more, or if you'd just like to try out a new restaurant, the eatery is opening Sept. 13 at 6 Florida St. 

Stargaze in Cumberland - 
Meet up with the Skyscrapers tonight at Cumberland Public Library 1464 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, RI. Members of Skyscrapers will be there to help people view Mercury and several other planets as well as the best moon of the month. Telescopes will be set up by 6:30 p.m. and will be ready to go as soon as the sun goes down. 

Candidates Night Sept. 24
 - MyWoonsocket.com and 1380 WNRI are co-sponsoring a Meet The Candidates forum on Sept. 24, 7 p.m., at Chan's, where Woonsocket voters will consider candidates in the Woonsocket Mayoral and City Council primary on Oct. 8 and the election on Nov. 5. 

Lorraine Corey and Roger Bouchard will moderate the event,  Jeff Gamache will moderate and Bill Bryda will be the timekeeper. The format: One question, the same question, will be asked of the incumbent City Council candidates. One different question, the same question, will be asked of the new candidates by the monderator.

Mayoral candidates will each ask a question of opposing candidates on two separate rounds.

Sign up for Girl Scouts -  Parents or guardians and girls entering grades K through 12 are invited to a registration rally for the Girl Scouts. There will be a sampling of Girl Scout activities, staff and volunteers will be on hand to give you more information Monday, Sept. 16, 6-8 p.m. at Woonsocket Harris Public Library, 303 Clinton St.
