Primary Today, Market and Forums, Autumnfest, Race Against Racism

Primary Today - The City Primary is today, Tuesday, Oct. 8. Since Council candidate Jeff Belknap dropped out, the remaining Council candidates will make it on the ballot. Still vying for their spots on the Nov. 5 ballot are Mayoral candidates Mayor Leo Fontaine, challenger Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49) or challenger Dave Fisher

Farmer's Market -
The Thundermist Farmers' Markets remain open until the end of October. Visit Tuesdays through Oct. 29, from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Thundermist Health Center in the city. Swing by and check out the fresh food and items for sale. For more details about the market visit: Woonsocket Farmers Market.

Candidates Forums Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 
Mywoonsocket.com has posted a schedule of candidates forums. The next one is for City Council candidates, Oct. 9, on 1380 WNRI's Upfront Show, 8 a.m.

The Black Initiatives Group (B.I.G.), a community group in Woonsocket, has planned forums for the City Council (Thursday, October 10) and Mayoral (Friday, October 18).  Both will be 7 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main St., Woonsocket. They'll start promptly at 7 p.m. and ask all to arrive as early as possible before that time. The forum is open to the public. B.I.G. asks voters to send all questions they would like to hear the candidates answer, to this email address,  blackinitiativesgroup@gmail.com.

Autumnfest -  Autumnfest celebrates 35 years with The Autumnfest Doo Wop Spectacular, featuring three performances as the Saturday night headliner: The Legendary Teenagers, The Chiffons, and Dicky Doo and The Dont’s featuring Gerry Granahan all performing with the Coast-to-Coast band Emceed by Todd Baptista. The festival returns on Columbus Day weekend this Saturday, Oct. 12. with fireworks on Sunday and a parade Monday morning.  

Race Register
- The Race Against Racism begins at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. Race day registration and packet pickup opens at 8 a.m. Participants are advised to arrive early for a warm up and welcome at 8:45 am. The 5K route starts and finishes at World War II Memorial State Park.  The distance of the race is approximately 3.1 miles. Throughout the race, volunteers and safety officials will be directing participants at key locations on the course.

Participants are encouraged to stay and enjoy the Autumnfest celebrations following the race. Refreshments and prizes will be available near the finish line. To register to run, walk or volunteer contact YWCA at (401) 769-7450
