Drive Safely As Storm Disrupts Busy Travel Day

A big wind and rain storm could make it slow going on this holiday travel day.

Huge travel day. Today is the busiest travel day of the year. AAA estimates 43.4 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which is actually a decrease of 1.5 percent from the 44 million people who traveled last year. However, treacherous weather could put a damper on some travel plans.

Turkey Day trash Schedule - On Thursday, in the observance of Thanksgiving Day, the Woonsocket Material Recycle Facility located at 943 River Street will be closed. The Recycle Facility will be open on Friday Nov. 29, Saturday Nov. 30. Woonsocket residents are reminded that curbside pick-up for trash, recycling and yard waste for Thursday and Friday will be delayed by one day.

Stormy weather on huge travel day. Rain, heavy at times, will disrupt the busiest travel day of the year as a significant storm dumps as much as 3 inches of rain across the region. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph cold snap tree branches and cause outages in the area.
