Dave Fisher, Green Party candidate for Mayor in Woonsocket, will host the first in a series of public listening events at Harris Public Library May 23, 6-8 p.m. Fisher said he'll use the event to gather input and insight from local residents and business owners on the future of the city. “One of the key values of the Green Party is grassroots democracy,” says Fisher, “given our current situation in Woonsocket, it is more important than ever for people to get involved in the process.” Fisher recently launched a website outlining four-point platform, including homestead exemptions awarded by length of residency, a 5-year inventory/tangible asset tax holiday, hiring a full-time grant writer for the city, efficiency/renewable energy upgrades…

Woonsocket Patch asked voters who they supported for president, and why.
The election is over, and while the majority of Woonsocket voters sided with President Barack Obama (Obama: 7,978, Romney: 4,111) with a 64 percent majority, not all did, and the outcome continues to draw comments on Woonsocket Patch. Today, we've got a few opinions on each side of the Romney/Obama question from election day with faces to match, including one charming nonagenarian voter (We're featuring her photo for that, not because she voted for Obama): At Crepeau Court Nov. 6, Bertha Julevich, accompanied by her son, Mark, was out to cast her vote for Obama. Bertha didn't mince words. "I'm an old lady," she announced cheerfully. She turns 99 in December. Bertha said she wanted to live up to her responsibility as a citizen. "I had to …

The voter count was at 90 at 1 p.m. By 7:30 p.m., with only half an hour left to vote, there was still a line out the door at the Board of Canvassers office. Polling places across the city reported high numbers and steady attendance throughout the day: At Bernon Heights School, about 640 voters had turned out by 3 p.m. At Leo Savoie School, the count was 798 by 1:30 p.m. At …

Rhode Island voters favor Democrats in election.
It was a good night for Democrats Tuesday in Rhode Island. In Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District David Cicilline was able to win a second term against a tough race fought against Republican Brendan Doherty. The former head of the Rhode Island State Police strongly criticized Cicilline during the course of the campaign over his final leadership of the city of Providence when he was mayor for eight before heading to Washington two years ago. In the 2nd Congressional District James Langevin was able to win a seventh term over Republican Michael Riley. Riley reportedly lent his campaign more than $600,000.
