When it comes to Woonsocket, there's one thing you can be sure about and that is the fact that we have plenty of restaurants. With so many eaterys, it was with much debate that our family finally decided to have lunch at our local Applebee's on Diamond Hill Road. Our first impression was very positive as Applebee's appeared quite inviting. It was very clean and pleasing to the eye with it's rich colored decor and unique collection of pictures and interesting paraphenilai covering the walls. On Saturday afternoon, my family was seated promptly in a comfortable large round booth, but a rather …
The first impression one gets when entering Kay’s Restaurant is that of a very fancy restaurant. The ambiance consists of beautiful Colonial décor, and it is dimly lit and quiet, making it a very cozy place to dine. We arrived late afternoon on Tuesday hoping to grab a late lunch/early dinner. Once we sat ourselves, our waitress was quick to the table to introduce herself and take our drink order. W were expecting her to hand us menus, but instead, the waitress handed us cocktail napkins with the entire Kay’s menu printed on it, which we found quite unique. To the surprise of someone …
The newest edition to Woonsocket's list of great places to dine, Plaza Mexico, combines a unique intimate setting with delectably fresh food to create one of the best overall dining experiences available in the area. My husband and I dined at Plaza Mexico on Wednesday evening at about 7 p.m. The restaurant was quite atmospheric with dark rich colors and beautiful Mexican decor. You definitely got the feeling you were in for some authentic Mexican fare, and there was certainly nothing 'chain restaurant' about it. In addition to the great ambiance inside, the restaurant also has a nice patio …
My oldest son graduated from High School this past week so I thought a quiet lunch together, just the two of us, would be fitting. We decided to go to Chan's and it proved to be the perfect choice for some one on one, mother and son time. At about 1 p.m. on a Friday afternoon Chan's was quiet, intimate and very cozy. We were greeted by a friendly waitress named Carla who was quite attentive and seemed generally happy to be there. This was definitely a plus, for me good customer service from waitstaff combined with a positive attitude can really set the tone for a good or bad experience, …
For this edition of Bites Nearby, I chose to dine at Chelo's, a Woonsocket staple since 1984. Chelo's offers a variety of delicious cuisine served in a unique, cozy atmosphere. As an added bonus, Chelo's is quite kid friendly, with fun and interesting decor, a great kids menu and its famous coin-operated miniature train that circles the main dining room. Upon entering Chelo's you can't help but notice the decadent assortment of desserts in the front entryway, with trademark choices like "Best Of Rhode Island Chocolate Fudge Cake." It's hard not to be tempted to skip dinner all-together and …
The Burrito Company on Cass Avenue not only serves up quality homemade Mexican dishes, they also offer unique drink options including a variety of homemade sangria and infused margaritas. Add to that a comfortable, intimate atmosphere and some of the friendliest service in town, and you have the makings of a genuinely great dining experience. I dined there with one guest on a Thursday evening and although they were busy when we first arrived, with a full bar and several larger parties, there was still plenty of seating. As always, Denise Sierre, the consistently upbeat, warm, friendly and …
Everyone loves to dine out once in awhile. Whether you'r interested in a romantic dinner for two or a fun-filled family dinner, River Falls offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for everyone. River Falls features a large and airy dinig room with plenty of space betweeen tables and booths. They also offer a large bar at which to relax while you're waiting for a table. Reservations are accepted, and calling ahead, as we did, does insure a table at the appointed time. Having arrived right around the dinner rush hour (Sunday at approximately 7 p.m.,) we were escorted directly to our table. …
Having a busy family makes it hard to have a nice family dinner when everyone is on the run. One of my favorite "mother's little helpers" is Chicken Power. The first thing you notice at Chicken Power is how wonderful it smells when you get out of the car. When you go into Chicken Power you'll see an open kitchen concept. It is nice, clean and well lit, and with an open kitchen, you can see all of the fresh ingredients. (When I was there they were pealing the squash!) The service was quick and friendly, but I had a hard time deciding what to order, because everything looked and smelled so good…
If you haven't been to Ciro's Tavern on Cherry in Woonsocket you don't know what you're missing. Often dubbed "Woonsocket's best kept secret," it far exceeded my expectations. We were greeted on Sunday afternoon by Chris, quite possibly the most down to earth, friendly waiter I've ever had. For appetizers we enjoyed fried mozzarella triangles, and the onion ring stack, both were crispy, hot and delicious. For lunch I chose the highly recommended delmonico steak sandwich with fries. The dish was hot, the steak melted in my mouth and the fries were piled high on my plate; it was simply …
