The situation that arose at the Council meeting is explicitly covered in the Council's Rules ofRead MoreOrde r. Rule 12 lists the order of precedence of motions. Lay on the table is number 3, the main motion (motion to approve) is number 11. Rule 12 continues "when any of them is immediately pending, the motions before it on the said list are in order and shall be acted upon first.". A motion to table is therefore in order even when a motion to approve has already been made and there is no need to withdraw the original motion. In my experience, matters are frequently tabled after the main motion has been made. Looks like some councillors need to review the Council's own rules.
Still Hope April 24, 2014 at 09:17 AM
When a question is tabled, it carries with it all the attributes it was tabled with. So, when thisRead Morer esolution comes off the table, it is already motioned for a vote. The resolution in question was already tabled once, from the last meeting. It wasn't motioned to for approval, it was simply tabled. Withdrawing the motion to approve makes this a fresh resolution with no other caveats attached.

I agree with Jay - we have to give the new Mayor and her administration a chance ... at least I'mRead Morewi lling to do that - and I don't belong to her political party!

Well this was my very first blog about something and I see people are as fired up as me about these Read Morecrazy tax rates. I was driving into the city from a different way and realized the city was not very big and wondered how this could get messed up so much with all these houses one after another. Such a big budget for a small city. Even the old mills were turned into condos that generate a very large amount of tax revenue .Passion is good! Good luck to all.

Why should we give her a chance when she's not giving anyone at city hall a chance? If you are not Read Morea yes person, then she's terminates you or belittles you in front of the cameras.
Russell Archambault April 09, 2014 at 08:02 PM
Can we stick to the topic at hand. What's the real motive of this person Sunshine? Was it reallyRead Moreswe eping the sidewalk, being a do good-er or just Sucking up to the landlord? I don't trust this person.
Keep Smiling April 10, 2014 at 08:20 AM
I don't think I've insulted anyone. If I have, I apologize. All I want to see is everyone pulling Read Moretogether to get Woonsocket back on track. Hope you all have a great day :)
sunshine April 10, 2014 at 01:35 PM
Sorry you feel that way Russ, first of all, I do not know of one person who doesn't trust me, norRead Moream I sucking up to the landlord as I have lived in the same apt for 15 years, and really don't have to, as he knows what kind of person I am. Not sure what you mean by do-gooder, I don't suck up to anybody, but I'm the first one to help out family and friends if they need it, they can always count on me. As for my motive, its pretty simple, I would like to see the city cleaned up and if we all spend a little time doing just that, I'm sure we would see a great improvement.
Small Citizen April 07, 2014 at 03:38 PM
Mr. Chainese, yes could be difficult at times, but he was trying to doing his job. I am in/out ofRead Moret he building department frequently for various permits, and he was always willing to speak with me, listen to what I had to say, especially if there was a difference of opinion on a job site. The other department heads working within that office (Don or Bernie, plus the others) should they also be "fired" because they too, are difficult MOST of the time, or won't look the other way because a property owner does not want to do everything the city code requires? Especially now with the current code requirements for a property on the "Vacancy List"; what investor wants to deal with those requirements? Do we want officials that are willing to just go along to get along, or do we want our community safe and up-to-code? If we want there to be no complaints, and go along, then the city needs to change the requirements and codes for pulling permits and the follow-up inspections. Or just bring Larry back.

anyone stop to think that, like most things in life, there is probably more to this story than 'we' Read Morethe public know...it seems as if the administration hasn't made any quick decisions on a subject matter thus far. the administration has either had someone else in the works or possibly someone may have acted unprofessionally that we are unaware of
Glen M April 15, 2014 at 10:45 AM
I have pulled quite a few permits and Chris has never let me down. He would even come out if youRead Morehad a questions to go over things with you. Even that first meeting quite some time ago when I tore a wall down and he walked in and said "what are you doing!" I said tearing a wall down... "do you have a permit?" For what!... Good luck Chris.

Jay March 29, 2014 at 08:43 PM
Wow Steve, I didn't realize that. Makes sense. It's a "fee", not a tax. Man, I'm not sure Read Morewhat the Mayor can do given the circumstances. Maybe just concede and go right into bankruptcy? What do you think Senator Aldrich?
Jim March 30, 2014 at 10:19 AM
Good call on a fee vs. tax Steve...you can't deduct fees when you itemize an income tax return.
Bill G. April 02, 2014 at 05:36 PM
At least they didn't charge us a late fee for the overdue 2013 payment. Crap, I should have kept my Read Moremouth shut, now that will give them an idea to stick it to us again.

Mew, during the budget commission meeting LBH announced that Brodd and Mathiew wasn't thereRead Moreanymore. It's on "My Woonsocket" in her words if you want to hear her. We can all do our part to make sure that we are supporting fellow legal citizens, US born orRead Morelegally immigrated. For example, a few years ago, I had the roof of my house redone. Let's face it, the construction industry is notorious for hiring illegal workers. I had a contractor come by to give me an estimate. One of the first stipulations I had for him to get the contract was I wanted only legal US citizens doing the work and nothing but English spoken on the job site. He knew exactly what I meant, agreed with me and assured me he was very serious when it came to using E-verify. Having a husband in the painting business, I know first-hand how many hard working Americans and their families get hurt by those who hire illegals and are able to undercut the competition with lower bids because of it. Instead of waiting for the government to get off their Politically Correct High Horse, do a little research and vow to only use the services of those who use E-verify - that goes for contractors, stores, any services. Look at the hiring practices of a company. If they state they do a "background check", chances are that they use E-verify. The problem is, we've been made to feel like we're the bad guy if we ask. It's time we stop feel embarrassed for doing the right thing!
William Perry March 27, 2014 at 12:16 PM
Great post, CB11! Most people are not aware of what e-verify does (seeks to prevent illegal aliensRead Moref rom getting jobs they , of course, are not legally allowed to get). Most are also not aware of the enormously negative impact that is created by illegal immigration. Thanks again for your post illustrating the personal impact. P.S. If you are from Woonsocket, your city is not listed as an e-verify user.

She has only been in office a few months, do people expect all these problems to be fixedRead Moreovernight? This city has more problems than cleaning up Cass Park, that is an issue that shouldn't even be on the table at this point. Clean up the financial mess and then worry about cleaning the park. And anyone who doesn't pay taxes and is more than able to work, but collects money from those who do, has no reason to complain.
Achienne March 22, 2014 at 11:57 AM
Wow! This seems to be a trend now. We've seen it at council meetings and all over. Anyone whoRead Moredare s to question our elected representatives whether council or mayor are deemed to be NEGATIVE... OOOOHHH NOOO!! And they are trying to "DESTROY "!!! the Mayor . trigger the fire and brimstone!!!. Every mayor gets criticized Just like Menard was, and Fontaine was and every one before them. The problems werent created over night and no they wont be solved overnight, but I don't think its wrong for people to question or even criticize our elected officials or to expect them to live up to their promises whoever they may be. In fact during difficult times people should be heard even louder, not silenced as some would like. And again MEW I'm NO Fontaine groupie and neither are many of the people raising questions!

Okay, let's get back on track...Councilwoman Murray & Councilman Mancieri won an election inRead MoreNov emeber. The same people that are complaining, voted for them. Stephen Weber wrote ...I'm positive They were clueless to what they were voting on... meaning the two councilpeople, So were the voters in November clueless. While at the poll, I overheard people asking who is running for city council?, who are the incumbents? That is info that they should have gotten before reaching the polling place, so they took a palm card w/Lisa's team & used that as a guide. Yes, both Mancieri & Murray were on that team & yes it worked, they were voted in. Now, people are unhappy about them...please...be careful who you vote for. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just recall all the politicians that we are making us unhappy? That would be most of the politicians in this state. On 4/3/14, WRCC is holding an issues & answers series @ Woonscoket Harris Public Library @ 7:00PM. The first in this series will be Ken Block, Gubernatorial candidate. On 4/17/14 will be Mayor Allan Fung. You will have the opportunity to ask the cadidate any question of your choosing. Others to be listed on the Patch calendar.
