Woonsocket residents please shovel your sidewalks!

Winter has arrived once again bringing loads of snow. I am deeply concerned about my children's safety. They have to walk home from the high school which is almost two miles from home. And I can say without a doubt that nearly every resident does not bother to shovel their sidewalks. Leaving no choice for my kids but to walk in the breakdown lane. Can we do something about this? Can landlords and home owners br fined for not complying?

JJ:,

Just take a look around the city and see the city isn't even clearing the sidewalks on it's streets!

Before you look to the landlords, take a look at your local city government..

This is only the beginning of deprived local services in Woonsocket. Get use to it.

I still don't get how a city can compel a property owner to clean a public sidewalk. The property owner doesn't own it! What happens when a property owner does clean the sidewalk and the city plow goes by and plows it under, does that obligate the property owner to do it again? I say no. Let's put some of those young people that have been sentenced to community service on those walkways and let them work their time off getting some exercise!

What ever happened to the idea that people shoveled their sidewalks because it was the safe, neighborly thing to do?
