Now is the time!

After the dust clears and residents of the city recover from the dizziness of all the finger-pointing going on by local politicians, hopefully some brave souls will come forward and run against the House delegation of Baldelli-Hunt, Phillips and Brien.

Baldelli-Hunt is too busy trying trying to make Fontaine look bad so she can make a run at mayor; but at the same time she helped her brother's business by defeating the payday lending bill.

Brien is too busy trying to ingratiate himself with his ALEC buddies and protecting the pockerbooks of millionaires by defeating legislation that would have taxed the rich at a higher rate.

And Phillips is just a non-entity. How did the voters in that district ever let Chris Fierro go?

Anyway, this is a short blog post but I'm sure it will stir a spirited debate. Oh, and here's a link for anyone considering a run:

Fontaine makes himself look bad enough. He and Ward only placate and cater to their own political allies in order to continue their OWN political gain. Neither of them were listening to the city taxpayers who told them that they and their families CAN NOT AFFORD the extra taxes being foisted on them. Perhaps if we were given automatic raises,6% colas, pensions funded by others, and free gold-plated medical, we'd be able to afford these demands. Good job Baldelli-Hunt, Brien and Phillips.

Lisa, spot on.

Another blog spot here by James trying to make his wealth re-distribution speech!

Hey James, tell you what, seeing how you don't pay any real property taxes in Woonsocket, and virtually have no skin in this deficit game, I hear City Hall has a drop off box where you can make a contrubution to the tax base in any denomination you would like.

I'm sure they would appreciate anything YOU can do for the actual cause!

Steve, this isn't about wealth distribution, its about power distribution. For too long, Woonsocket has been held hostage by the likes of Baldellis and Briens. Both families have gotten theirs and will hold onto power as long as they can and aren't afraid to ruin the city in the process.

As for both of your attempts to deflect the conversation, the issue is getting others involved in the democratic process. That's a small "D," democratic, after all, we all know the capital "D" Democrats representing Woonsocket in the General Assembly are actually Republicans in disguise.

And when it comes to Fontaine and Ward, they're both spineless too; opting to neglect the fiscal situation for the sake of getting elected. Politics in Woonsocket is rotten, its time to Etch-a-Sketch the whole slate.

Ah yes, and after all the re-distribution rhetoric, comes the Etch-a Sketch quote. CLASSIC liberal punchline!

Man, reading your blogs and posts is like watching an MSNBC Rachell Maddow or Ed Show episode......

As for trying to deflect the conversation, I'm just trying to figure out what you actually contribute to the tax base of Woonsocket or RI in general.

Where do you get off stating that others should contribute more whether it be through a Supplemental Tax or general tax increase across the board, when your tax liability, from what I can tell, is virtually nothing?

Again, like I was asking before, how much skin do you actually have in this game?

Have a great day!

I could ask you the same question. As far as anyone here knows, you're a first name.

I also find it funny that you try to link things I've posted on other blog items to this topic. There is no linkage here. All this is about is encouraging everyone to become more involved in the democratic process.

Are you against that? It seems to me your entire line of rebuttal traces back to the fact you want to keep the status quo. If that's the case, own up to it, write your own blog entries and see what kind of responses you get.

As for being a liberal, you bet I am! After all, where have the conservatives gotten us? That's right, their lack of oversight let the banks run wild and collapse what was a thriving economy. You should be asking why the banks got a bailout but Woonsocket won't.

Have a great day yourself!

I think that Jesus himself could have been a considered a liberal. He was for the sick, tired, poor and hungry.

Well James, as I have stated previously here on numerous occasions, I am a tax paying resident to the tune of over 6K+ a year between property taxes, excise taxes and such!

But oh no, according to your and some others on this site line of thought, that’s just not enough right?

What have you got going for you, an IOU to the city for services rendered? Get real will ya!

I’m glad that our State Reps. finally had the BALLS to take steps that are protecting the real folks in Woonsocket that keep this system running (the tax payers), and not the folks who are constantly on the take to see how much more they can get away with before the whole house of RI State Democratic and Union cards falls down. How much more blood do you think you can get from a dry stone.

Do your self a favor, take a look at the Woonsocket Call and see how many homes are in foreclosure now! Then, and only then, will you realize the plight of the Woonsocket property owner! Your view on the local political scene is naive at best!

And to make a comment on the bank bail outs as well as Woonsocket, my thought is no company or city is too big to fail! Banks, auto makers, solar power companies and city administrations, if you can’t do business at a profit or maintain a positive budget sheet, step aside and let a company or elected official/officials that has a proven track record take over!

You think they blocked it? They just delayed it. When the Receiver comes in it will be even higher than what was asked for by the current administration. Then the receiver will eliminate any services we still have as a poor community, i.e., library, senior center museum of work & culture, street sweeping, trash pick up. You name it it'll be on the table to be eliminated. I hope it doesn't snow this winter because by then we'll have no one to plow the streets

John, wake up. What this has done is make the local politicians finally realize that there's no free money to be had. Everyone in the city knows that we're going to get hit big time with a tax bill, but now the local pols. have been FORCED into making some serious decisions on where cuts need to be made to balance the budget.

Oh, is it a coincidence that the WED has made the decision to turn the school system over to the state? I think not. This decision is telling the local government that this situation can't continue, and deep cuts need to be made and need to made to be made NOW!

No more, HMMM, lets hit em' with a tax bill and see how that turns out, no more, HMMM, lets wait until the tax payers fork over another 5 million and see how far down the road that will get us.....

It appears this whole fiasco is finally coming to a head, and now some serious decisions will be made. It's about time..........

Is that what happened in Central Falls? No snow removal? No trash removal? I know the library closed for a short while.

Central Falls had to close their Senior Center and the library. The only reason the Library reopened was because of a generous donation from a successful actor that grew up there. The school department is still sub-par even though it is run by the state and currently has a 5million dollar deficit.

steve; i believe you could agree with me that fontaine and ward know all the ins and outs of the citys workings. lets face it their knowledgeable. the sad thing is they just dont want to go after certain areas that really need to be cleaned up. the number one issue is the unions. i am not a union person, but i do believe that in some private sectors they are a very important part. ( thats for another day ) but in public service" government " there is no need for them. they have gone too far and that is why we are in the mess that we are in. i still say (opinion) that the state has caused all of these holding back moneys to stop the runaway spending that citys have, and straighten our house out. as you know its hard to get in the politcal mix.

russell,
I have to strongly disagree with you when it comes to the unions. The greed of unions - both private sector and public sector is one of the primary reasons that this country is in the poor shape it is in. The greed of the private sector unions is why we have lost so much manufacturing to overseas companies. The greed of the public sector unions is why so many cities, towns and states are on the verge of bankruptcy in this country. Public sector unions are totally out of touch with reality.

DON Q; I totally agree with you. with my limited typing and explaining skills. what i meant there are some union skilled jobs like steel workers or specialty jobs. unions do provide extensive training. wish there was more training in the world. thanks
