As a local attorney practicing in East Greenwich, I get asked a broad range of questions. Recently, a local business client called up to tell me that they received a notice asking them to pay a $125 fee associated with a so-called "Annual Meeting Disclosure Statement," and wondering whether they had to pay it.
After a little digging, I discovered that the R.I. Secretary of State issued a statement that these very formal-looking letters did not originate from their office, nor any other governmental agency.
A takeaway? Please look into any soliciations that you receive asking you to pay money, regardless of how legitimate the solicitation looks!

Good tip, those incorporated in RI do have to file an 'Annual Report' each year, it looks like some scam artist is trying to purposely cause confusion.

Thank you Katherine and other conscientious attorneys or business professionals that freely share information such as this. In my mind, you stand out more for this gesture.
