CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Cranston's Budlong Pool is going to reopen this summer to swimmers.
A cash-flow problem for the city, compounded by the historic floods, kept swimmers out of the pool all last summer. Cranston officials say it costs about $120,000 to run the pool every season, and last year they simply didn't have the money.

Well they certainly were able to find the money this year, along with so many other cities and towns. Why can't Woonsocket follow their lead?

So unfair Woonsocket doesnt have a beach,or public pool.Glad i grew up in the late 1960's when their was a nice beach in Woonsocket. The beach was one of the most special places that made Woonsocket special. They should put back the beach the way it was when the water was low on all sides. How can you attract people to live in Woonsocket unless theres something special to offer them.

WWII State Park is exactly what is says it is, a state park and the problem is our local legislatures who do not support or attempt to support that park. The state has the funds to open and run it if hey were told to do so by our GA. What a shame and a waste of real estate.

Cranston has a very active commercial center. It also still has some manufacturing.

because Woonsocket kids seem to have NO respect for anything? i am SO tired of every time they fix Cass park, 1 day later it is ruined again. The graffiti on Globe Park School is contstant. i go out and see so much vandalism and disrespect i really don't want to spend my hard earned money paying for things they will take for granted and ruin quite honestly!

Not all kids. My kids are very well manned, have respect and do excellent in school. No need for stereotyping and judging them as a whole.

If you go to the top of the page, click on news, scroll down to schools, skip all the budget stories, you will find that the city of Woonsocket, as well as neighboring communities have wonderful students. If you check them out not any of the complainers on these pages comment on the good stories about our young people.

i do know the young people, i have 2 in the school system. and its why i see the bad too. sadly? the bad seem to be taking over? and of course, i blame those parents. are all punished for the percentage of bad? probably. but until people take responsibility for their actions, the actions of their kids, and learn not to take things for granted, things will be destroyed and our money wasted. i would LOVE LOVE LOVE for there to be something like that pool. i just know what would happen, who would take over and how unsafe it would be for the good kids.
just my opinion of course.

I completely agree with you, Laura. Woonsocket has many good kids but, unfortunately, we also have many kids (families) that do not respect our city and other people's property. These are the kids that are ruining the parks for the good kids. Parents need to be held accountable for the misdeeds of the offspring and they need to pay for the damage. Many will say "Not my kids" but, do you really know where your children are and who they are with? Parents - all parents - need to be keeping a closer eye on their children!

More young people are harder to find because we totally do not support them. If a negative story comes out you will see 10-20 comments. But the high school graduates don't even get noticed. ) The top graduate from Woonsocket is a public school student going off to Harvard.) This is true if you go to the other "Patch" pages from Cranston, Wrenthem etc.

The middle school did not even have a proper graduation for the 8th graders. People are always so quick to blame the kids but it starts at home and the kids support system. If adults are giving up on this kids and all they hear is negative what do you think is going to happen???? There is very little support here in Woonsocket for the kids.

Yvette, Whatever happened to the splash park they were supposed to put at Cass Park? Didn't Lisa Baldelli-Hunt steal the idea as her own and claimed it would be installed at WWII Memorial Park?
Right before the election she had all these glamourous plans and renderings of what WWII memorial was to become….when is construction going to begin?

There are so many great kids in this city and yes, they never get recognized. We just focus on the bad and there are plenty of those.
We need to let them all know the we care about them. There should be something here in the city that they can be proud of. No the splash park was actually Anita McGuire Forcier's idea, it was suppose to be at Cass Park but the Cass Park Committee voted to have it at WWII Park instead and now, where is it? NOTHING!!!!
I do beleive that this is the only city with nothing for our kids. Yes, some destroy but that happens everwhere not only in Woonsocket.

Exactly Yvette!!! Its so sad. About a year ago I decided to quit my job and stay home with my 2 boys. And no I do NOT receive any assistance. My husband is an extremely hard working man which allows me to do so. In the summer I take my kids somewhere every day so they are not just bumming around. I have to find places outside of Woonsocket because there is nothing here for them. We have a Y membership which is great for winter but in the summer it would be nice to be able to take my kids out locally.
