Woonsocket Police Arrest Two Men For Pot Possession, Seize 14 Pitbulls

The following arrest information was provided by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

At 6:30 a.m. Friday, Woonsocket Police served a search warrant at 95 Rathbun St., 2nd left, arresting residents Miguel Medina, 22 and Juan Olivio, 35.

Inside the apartment, police found Medina with 3.5 grams of marijuana and oxycodone pills, for which he did not have a prescription. Medina was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a schedule I-V drug, the oxycodone.

Olivio, whom police caught with .2 grams of marijuana, was charged with possession of marijuana, 1st offense.

Police also found 14 pitbulls in the apartment, including seven puppies. Two of the dogs were properly licensed.

The mother and puppies are being held by Lincoln Animal Control, and the RISPCA took control of four adult dogs. Woonsocket Animal Control is holding the other dogs.

The tenants have been cited for numerous animal violations totaling close to $1,600 in fines.

Yvette, this IS good news in one way. Hear me out...

These guys don't appear to be drug dealers, or even criminals, so far as we can tell from the article--
they just had small amounts of pot and prescrip. drugs that they were probably using themselves. (.2 grams is REALLY small amount of a dried herb!)

Instead, the police appear to have mainly focused on the fact that this appears to be the kind of "backyard breeding" situation of pit bull dogs that the city was so concerned about.

This story is at least evidence that the city listened and is trying to respond to the people who argued that pit bull legislation would punish responsible owners, and that we should just enforce the laws that were already on the books (which apparently they hadn't been doing consistently.)

So the message this article sends is-- make sure you register your dogs. Learn and follow the local laws on dog ownership and breeding, because they're going to be enforced.
(Apologies to the owners if they were following the law, in which case this headache should soon be over)

Feeding 14 dogs costs a lot. I wonder how these "people" can afford it.

And actually the police should be cleaning out ALL dogs over the LEGAL LIMIT!!!! Or cats if there is a limit also. There are tooo many people breeding illegally,,, or having way too many pets.
