Wednesday Five: Snow, Nixle, Stadium, Nowell, Porketa

Welcome to Wednesday - check out today's things to know:

Snow tonight - The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area, with light snow begining Wednesday night and accumulating to about 6 to 12 inches between today and Friday. Be prepared for a snowy drive home after work.

Nixle - After the recent snowstorm the Woonsocket Police and Fire Department  want to send a reminder about Nixle.  During the snowstorm residents received a phone message with information from Nixle.  We are encouraging all residents and interested parties to sign up for Nixle’s OPT IN notification alerts.  You will be able to choose what messages you want to be informed of including emergency alerts, public safety updates, or community event information. You can receive Nixle messages on your cell phone, tablet, or other device.

2013 Stadium brochure -  The updated 2013 season brochures for Stadium Theatre are on their way. Anyone on the mailing list should receive them within the next 10 days! Meanwhile, check it out online.

Nowell Academy Taking Applications - The First round of applications for the Nowell Academy are available for the 2013 - 2014 academic year and must be returned by March 15, 2013.

The Sheila C. “Skip” Nowell Leadership Academy Charter School is an ideal setting for pregnant and parenting teens or other students who find the traditional school setting unaccommodating. The Academy combines online studies with classroom work and is aimed specifically at students whose family responsibilities interfere with their attendance at high school. That includes teenagers who are pregnant or already parents, who are responsible for taking care of other family members, who are victims of domestic abuse or who lack family support.

Porketa - Tickets are now on sale for the Woonsocket Rotary Porketa Monday, March 11, 6 p.m., at the Elks Hall, 368 Social St. They'll put you back $20, and you'llneed to find a rotary member to buy them
