Wednesday Five: Seeking Culinary Artists, Venture, Register, Showers

Welcome to Wednesday, Woonsocket - here are some things to get you started:

Culinary arts - Today, 10 a.m., show up at 83 East St. for a free meeting to learn about a culinary arts program. The 14-week program will allow you to:

  1. Learn about different jobs in the Food Services Industry
  2. Gain experience through an internship
  3. Receive job placement assistance
  4. Get ServSafe Certification

Venture - All Saints Parish's Venturing Crew meeting will be held tonight at the church, 6:45 p.m. Venturing, a little known part of The Boys Scouts of America, is made up of boys and girls between the ages of 14-21. It is a non denominational leadership program where youths learn to be leaders while enjoying the company of their peers under the supervision of registered adults of BSA.

Chime in - We're interested in what you have to say. Maybe the readers of the Woonsocket Patch are, too — they were certainly interested in Rene M. Lafayette's post, "Believing in America: Tone set in GOP speeches."

Register to vote - Oct. 7 is the deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 6 election, and Oct. 16 is the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. The deadline to register to vote in the Sept. 11 primary has passed, but if you were already registered, you're OK. If you're an unaffiliated voter, you can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary - just ask the poll worker to to dis-affiliate you on the way out after to return to independent status. This election season voters will also be required to show a voter ID

Weather - More showers today, sadly, though the temps will reach 75 degrees.
