Tuesday Five: Supplemental Tax Today, School's Out, Free Tax Help, Intern

Supplemental Tax Today - The Woonsocket Budget Commission will discuss how to assess tax bills to increase the city's 2012 tax levy by 4.5 percent today. The increase is one element of the Commission's plan to fix the city's $14.5 million deficit over the next five years. They'll meet at City Hall in Harris Hall at 3 p.m.
School's out: Winter recess is this week, so watch out on the roads today. There won't be buses to look out for this morning, but kids might be out and about exercising their free time.
Free Tax Services Connecting for Children & Families (CCF) is reopening its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in Woonsocket. The VITA program provides free tax preparation for families with income less than $50,000. The tax preparers are trained and certified by IRS to do federal and state taxreturns. This free service is available Mondays – Fridays 9:30 AM to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hope Street Family Center at 46 Hope Street, Woonsocket.
