SOUND OFF: President Obama and the Democratic Convention

What did you think of Obama's speech and the convention? Will you vote for him in November?

President Barack Obama capped off the Democratic National Convention with a speech that highlighted his foreign policy wins, health care reform and immigration reform on Thursday.

Over three nights, Democratic leaders took aim at Republican nominee, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and his running mate Congressman Paul Ryan. A number of Massachusetts Democrats spoke at the convention, including Gov. Deval Patrick, Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren and Senator John Kerry.

After last week's Republican National Conventon, we asked readers to tell us what they thought of the convention and Romney.

Now, we want to hear from Woonsocket about the Democratic convention. What did you think of the president's speech? What did you think of the convention? Were you swayed in either direction after watching the proceedings from Charlotte? Who are you supporting in November?

Let us know in the comment section below.

Vote for him? BAHAHA..not even for dog catcher. If the media vetted Obama with half the enthusiasm they had for Palin we would not have had to endure four years of his hapless leadership.

There is no chance that Obama will receive my vote. His term as President has been a dismal failure. Thankfully, more and more people are recognizing the truth about his inability to effectively lead from the Oval Office and I don't believe he has a chance at reelection. He fooled many people four years ago with his empty promises (lies) and unattainable dreams. I hope that those who were fooled will be wise enough not make the same mistake again. Wouldn't it be nice if little RI showed the country that we are NOT sheep and we do not ALWAYS vote with our eyes closed and our hands on the Democrat lever?

Wow, and I thought I was the only one who thought his speech (if you want to call it that rather than a Rev. Wright sermon) was total BS!

Again, no facts, no figures, no data, no plans other than to put a solar panel on everyone’s roof is just rhetoric “Give me four more years” at the most basic level. Al Sharpton and Rachael loved it though.........

And look at the cast of characters they rolled out in the convention, liars on their service roll, sodomy (cigar smokin’/using) experts (You go Bubba), women who need to have their $3000.00 contraceptives paid for and finally to wrap it all up, Barney Frank! Classic!

There is hope in November after all.....

Also, how can this country survive when the average taxpayer owes over $140,000 (total debt= $16,000,000,000+) just to eliminate the current debt?

We can not keep spending our way into reducing the deficit. At what point does the well dry up?

Regardless who wins in November, let's hope they do the right thing, and bring America back to prosperity, and not put America in fiscal jeopardy.

The rich haven't been favored. They pay a greater percentage of their income than others. If one goal in life is to do well and make money, why should that goal be stifled by a government looking to even things out? I'm not pleased that I'll be voting for Romney, but he's definitely the better of the two.

I count the votes on this poll so far to be 9-2 in favor of Romney. This may not be an accurate representation of the RI vote because Obama has all the unions, the minorities and the elderly in his corner. Those groups probably don't bother answering internet polls. However, the results here indicate that intelligent RI voters definitely know that Obama must go.

Novan for life, this will be easy:

<Ending two unpaid wars.> Iraq war was resolved by Bush in 2008, troops to be withdrawn by Dec 2011, Obama just followed proceedure. Afgan war is still on, Obama sent more troops in. I actually like this move, we can't rape the place and just leave everyone to be shot in face later.

<fair pay act.> This topic could run for pages. I'll leave you with this: residential real estate is dominated by women workers and the commission rates and procedures are pretty standarized. Yet women are still paid substantially less than men. The Fair Pay Act gives women the right to sue themselves for equal pay.

<healthcare reform.> You mean a broken Romneycare? Romney wants to strip this reform and put in his fixed Romneycare. I’m gonna make a separate post on mandated health care.

<wall st reform.> These are the acts that make it very hard for the working class to get loans anymore, preventing refinancing and keeping the middle class from getting those houses on the foreclosure market. Leaving properties for investers only. Rich get richer. The credit card reforms also hits small businesses by shifting more fees on them. And small businesses can't get loans anymore. Banks will still make their profits, just in shadier ways now. Plus Obama gave money to the banks.

<auto industry bailout.> Started by Bush, carried on by Obama. Too much $ put toward the wrong ideas. Billions put into electric car technology that just doesn't make sense right now. CNG and diesel should have been priorities, we already have the infrastructure and is environmentally viable now. Rare metals in hybrids come from Chinese mines. Thus they have us by the balls and their labor practice is less than sound. Next up, $5 Trillion for flying cars.

<killing osama bin laden.> Heh heh. This is a stretch but I'll let you have one. He can also have that they covered up where his body is by "tossing it in the ocean". Yeah OK.

<i dont see how a pres can succeed when the leader of the republicans in the senate stated that they weren't going to work with him on anything.> There is his biggest flaw. He can't lead! All the greats, knew how to manage the interests of everyone they touched. Obama just pisses on groups of people and organizations for the sake of another. FDR saved the country because he worked with the people and the companies for the greater good. Obama is fostering polarized parties. He’s creating wars amongst the people. You don't ridicule the Republican party while you are trying to work with them. That's just dumb. Even Romney(R) worked hand and hand with Ted Kennedy(D) while the two were around.

<oh yeah you all enjoyed those tax cuts from pres obama though> What administration DOESN'T throw in a stimulus every few years? I'd rather pay my regular taxes NOW, instead of the deficit w/ interest LATER. To be honest, I haven’t seen my effective tax rate change much at all in years. According to the IRS website, tax rates are going up next year. Now if you’d like to mention the payroll tax cut, I will give him a kudos for that. Saves a company a few thousand dollars per employee, that’s good for business and jobs.

You leave out some important details about Obama. He’s pushed for more drilling of oil than any president. He is harder on illegal immigration than any president. He refuses to repeal DOMA(signed by Clinton) because of his religion. Gave states a Trillion $ so Diamond Hill Rd could be paved twice (and still not done properly).

<now still hope i challenge you to tell me romneys plan moving forward if he has one (aka flip flop ,mitt the twitt) good luck still hope> Read his book. Plain and simple. I hear him now reiterate the same sentiments, in context, that he wrote over 3 years ago. What I think is awesome is that he is a moderate conservative, so he can work with both sides of the aisle at the same time. This is why the strong Republican Right feared him so much in the primaries. The heart of a liberal, the sense of a conservative, and the actions of a leader.

The End.

Mandated Health Care.

Here is an example of how it hurts. Say a construction contractor has $50k to pay to each of his employees. Now the contractor, must offer health care to all. In order to pay for the plan itself, the contractor takes out $5k from each person's pay. So, each person now makes $50k + health. Great!

But what If I already have coverage through my wife and I use this job strictly for the cash flow? The boss says sorry, I need your $5k to fund the plan for the group. Some guys will use the plan, others will not. Either way you all pay. So the effective pay rate is $45k + nothing of use. A decrease of -$5k. Thanks Obama. Now apply this to any job that is cash dependant. Bartending, waiting, fishing boats, etc. The jobs where you are not in it for benefits or the vacation time, just there to make bank.

I know of a telemarketing office that took his services oversees strictly because of this. That and the oversees telemarketers are better at what they do.

2 reasons why he's been hush.

1. It was the primaries. He needed to secure the R vote. His views are so moderate that he would have scared off the vote from the Right. The RNC was a pep rally and very few issues were brought up.

2. You will see him come to life in the upcoming debates. How can Obama argue universal healthcare with the guy that wrote it? Romney's views on foreign policy are pretty clear in his book. Look under the chapter titled: Foreign Policy.

Let me also be clear, I never said I was voting for Romney.

Gas prices keep rising so that means company will pass this onto the consumers, When we pay such high gas prices, it's like taking a pay cut, Soooo, I'm voting for Romney, who will be braver enough to pass the keyline, gas pipe line, increase drilling our own oil in our own country, producing clean coal.
