Kids Visit Stadium Theatre For 'Seussical'

Students enjoyed a first time experience in historic theatre.

School wasn't out for Smithfield Friday, which was a good thing for third graders at Old County Road School — their field trip was to Woonsocket's Stadium Theatre to see 'Seussical'.

A line of buses from Smithfield, carrying OCRS kids lined up outside the theatre at 28 Monument Square at about 9:45 a.m. Friday as a series of snow flurries blew across the city. Inside, though, it was warm, cozy and loud in the way you can only accomplish by placing hundreds of kids in an ornately decorated room with the anticipation of a Dr. Seuss spectacle.

"This is a good experience for them," said one third grade teacher at OCRS. "They've never been to a theater before."

I remember going to the stadium for the first time.I also was in the third grade at Saint Ann parochial school. On the way out of the theater a nun was in the small foyer between the two entrances. She kept saying to the students, DONT LOOK UP. and hitting anyone with her clacker who tried. I'm still afraid to look at that fresco of the naked women.
