Police Log: Three Arrested For Attacking Man At His Campsite
The following arrest information was supplied by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
On Sept. 16, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Woonsocket Police arrested Brian Moore, 56, of Fountain Street, at a campsite near East School Street, charging him with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.
Moore was the third of three people police were seeking following the Sept. 6 report by Rene Martel of an Aug. 26 assault at about 9 p.m.
Martel said that on that night, at his campsite off East School Street, several people ganged up on him, provoked, he said, by the fact that he is a registered sex offender. He said they also believed that he had stolen from them.
Martel said the attack began when Moore said, "Hey!" The call was followed by someone striking him in the face with a chain that had a lock at the end of it, knocking him to the ground. Before he could get up, several people began kicking and punching him, striking him with his own hammer, he said in the report. Martel said there at least five people who attacked him, identifying Moore, David Sullivan and Shawna Ozorowsky and two other individuals, one of whom he said taped the attack.
Martel said the attack ended when another man, Douglas Lachance, showed up to break up the attack, picked him up and brought him to Landmark Medical Center. Rene said he had suffered a right orbital fracture, several bruised ribs, bruised arms, a bruised leg and a cut chin that required stitches.
Police photographed Martel's injuries that night, but he refused to file charges. On Sept. 6, he had decided to file charges after all.
On Sept. 14, police located Ostrowsky and Sullivan at a campsite near Privilege Street in the woods, arresting them and charging each with felony assault. Police located Moore near East School Street and arrested him Sept. 16.
