Police Log: Reckless Driver Narrowly Misses Collision With Police Cruisers

This arrest information was supplied by the Woonsocket Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Woonsocket Police Officer Nicholas Guilmette was making a traffic stop across from the YMCA on Clinton St. Aug. 30 at about 2:17 a.m. when he heard a car approaching at high speed. A few moments later he saw a black 2000 Jeep Cherokee speed through the intersection, turning onto Clinton St. from Main Street, hitting the curb and coming close to flipping, a Woonsocket Police Cruiser close behind in pursuit.

Guilmette yelled a warning to the other officers on the traffic stop, since the Jeep appeared to be headed straight for them. The Jeep narrowly missed the officers, and Guilmette got into his cruiser to help apprehend the driver.

Guilmette and the other officer pursued the Jeep onto Truman Drive, where it was ultimately pulled over. The driver, identified as Brett Corderre, 22, of 137 Crawford St., was ordered out of the vehicle, to put his keys on the ground and then kneel nearby with his hands on his head.

Corderre told officers they didn't have to arrest him and tried to pull away from Guilmette's grasp as he attempted to place him in handcuffs. They disagreed. A second officer assisted Guilmette, and together they were able to place Corderre in handcuffs.

On his way to the Woonsocket Police department, Corderre became hostile, yelling profanities at Guilmette, continuing the behavior throughout the booking process. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, reckless driving, leading officers on a high-speed chase, and refusing a chemical test.

Just curious..why does it matter who his relatives are? Doesn't this prove that if you break the law, you will have to pay the consequence? His relatives didn't break the law, he did.

Sunshine; please get in the shade for a while so you can understand all the blogs. I'll help. Yes he has to pay for wrongdoing, If true no mater who you belong to as family, as good as the family may be and how important family may be, no family as a unit escapes problems in their lives.

I also know the family very well and have been good friends with them for years. Brett is a great kid who clearly made a bad decision. Russell, I was following the blogs. Not sure what the intent was in pointing out who is family is. He does come from a fantastic family. If you know the family you would know that they will get him help. They will love and support him and understand that he made a bad choice. I just don't like when people who live in glass houses throw stones. No family is without issues and sadly many people have driven after having one too many drinks. While it is wrong, it is the truth. Thankfully, he didn't hurt anyone and will get some help.

Russell likes to act like he's the top dog of the pack in the Woonsocket Patch comments. Just ignore him. Or troll him. Whatever you see fit. :D

I was answering comments on patch exactly what you just stated. I am not the one that stated about the family. all I was doing was stating that every family including my own dont escape problems in life. If you would have taken the time to read my blog you would have understood it.
