Monday, Monday: Pitbulls, Candidates Night, Road Closed, Taxes
Grab some coffee and a buckle down. The week is starting off with a bang.
Council - The Woonsocket City Council meets tonight, 7 p.m. at Harris Hall, third floor in City Hall. On their agenda, among other things - a resolution that will prohibit the ownership or sale of pitbulls within city limits. (See attached .pdf.)
Candidates - If the primary candidates night didn't satisfy your curiosity about your choices come Nov. 6, you've got another chance, this time with fewer faces since Sept. 11. Tonight at Woonsocket High School, 777 Cass Ave., at 6:30 p.m. at the Woonsocket Candidate Education Forum.
Candidates Senator Roger A. Picard, Senator Marc A. Cote, Representative Lisa Baldelli-Hunt (D-Dist. 49) Rep. John D. Brien (D-Dist. 51) Rep. Robert D. Phillips (D-Dist. 50), Candidate for Dist. 49 Michael Moniz, Candidate for Dist. 51 Stephen M. Casey and Candidate for Dist. 50 Christopher Roberts will attend. Among other issues, the candidates will discuss their thoughts on education in Woonsocket. Superintendent Giovanna Donoyan will moderate the event.
Road closed - Tuesday and Wednesday, Rhodes Avenue will be closed from Second Avenue to Mendon Road (North Smithfield) for necessary sewer main repair work in the area of Seventh Avenue. There will be no thru traffic or trucking from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. City workers will be fixing a sewer line on Rhodes, so maybe it's just as well you won't be able to drive through there.
Taxes - The second payment of Woonsocket property owners' quarterly taxes are due today. The 2012 tax bills were mailed on July 6th for real estate and personal property. Taxes are due in four (4) quarterly payments unless the amount due is less than $100, then the bill must be paid in full on the first quarter due date. The next two due dates are Jan.15, 2013 and April 15, 2013.
